Sanghasena calls Doctors to help Ladakhi people in Himalayas

  Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), over 3-decades old educational and spiritual NGO based in Leh (Ladakh) has appealed to the international medical community to extend their support to the health services in remote Himalayas . Doctors are given a call to join the Global Doctors Association of the Himalaya (GDAH). The medical care available in the high  Himalayas is inadequate for the local communities. There are not enough well-equipped hospitals with qualified doctors. To provide medical care to some of the poorest people and those living in the remotest villages of the Himalayan region, Bhikkhu Sanghasena, a Buddhist leader and founder of MIMC, established the Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital (MKCH) in 1995 at the Devachan campus of MIMC in Leh.   Patients at the Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Hospital, Leh MKCH has been delivering medical treatment with the help of senior doctors retired from local government hospitals and visiting volunteer docto

Glaciers will melt away in next 30 years : Experts

Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena addressing the inaugural session of the International Conference on Himalayan Environment at Leh A group of environmentalists has warned of grieving situation of water crisis in the whole Himalayan region, owing to the global warming, which is causing glaciers melting at a fast pace. If the conditions remain same, all the Himalayan glaciers will melt down in next 30 years or so. Volunteers from Chandigarh take part in Himalayan Peace Walk

Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena (left) at Leh Market during the Peace March The month-long pad yatra of Thai monks and nuns, which started from Dharamshala last month, concluded at Leh. A group of volunteers from Chandigarh also took part in the final leg of the peace walk, when a procession started from Leh Market and reached the Shanti Stupa, a major centre of tourist attraction in Ladakh. The participants were felicitated by Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder President, Save the Himalayas Foundation (SHF). Purpose of this 4 th annual pad yatra was to spread the message of world peace and protection of Himalayan heritage and environment. Bhikkhu Sanghasena, President, Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) Leh-Ladakh said, “We wholeheartedly welcome the participants of the Pad Yatra and International Conference on ‘World Peace, 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of the Himalayas’.”
