The month-long pad yatra of Thai monks and nuns, which
started from Dharamshala last month, concluded at Leh. A group of volunteers
from Chandigarh
also took part in the final leg of the peace walk, when a procession started
from Leh Market and reached the Shanti Stupa, a major centre of tourist
attraction in Ladakh.
The
participants were felicitated by Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder
President, Save the Himalayas Foundation (SHF). Purpose of this 4th
annual pad yatra was to spread the message of world peace and protection of
Himalayan heritage and environment.
Bhikkhu
Sanghasena, President, Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) Leh-Ladakh
said, “We wholeheartedly welcome the participants of the Pad Yatra and
International Conference on ‘World Peace, 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi and Preservation of the Cultural Heritage of the Himalayas’.”
Narviay
Yadav, General Secretary, SHF Chandigarh Chapter, said, “SHF is an initiative
to preserve the true grace of Himalayas and
protect the eco system. It was founded by Ven Sanghasena in 2016 to restore and
protect the land, nature, cultures and values that form this glorious part of
Earth.”
The
pad yatra, a walking pilgrimage, initially started from Bodh Gaya and via
Dharamshala, it entered the Ladakh region, where it concluded at the Mahabodhi
International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Leh. Prominent among the City
volunteers included Major Deepak Chaudhary, Dr Vandana Shukla, Dr Amit Nagpal,
Narvijay Yadav and Brijesh Bhatt.
