Seminar on ‘Net Zero: Alternate Fuel for Marine Propulsion’ held


 

Chandigarh: A thought-provoking seminar was held here on ‘Net Zero: Alternate Fuel for Marine Propulsion’ under the aegis of the Marine Engineering Division Board of The Institution of Engineers-India (IEI), Punjab and Chandigarh State Centre, in collaboration with the Institute of Marine Engineers India, Chandigarh Chapter, Institution for Innovation Industrial Engineering and Entrepreneurship, Mumbai, Merchant Navy Officers Association (MNOA), Chandigarh and The Company of Master Mariners (India), Chandigarh. Dr. Labh Singh FIE welcomed all dignitaries on Dias and the participants attending the seminar.


MNOA Chandigarh president Captain T.S. Bhatia said that the seminar touched upon multiple challenges and opportunities in adopting green fuel in the marine sector. “As India strives to become a net zero emitter by 2070, we mariners too wish to contribute our bit in achieving the goal.”

Prof S K Sharma, Prof Emeritus Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest, and Prof. (Dr.) T.S. Kamal FIE, Former Vice-President IEI was the Guest Honour, they also shared their thoughts with the participants.

 

The other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion included Er. S.S. Mundi, Council Member and Immediate Past Chairman, IEI P & C State Centre, Cdr Dr. Bhaskar Bhandarkar, Chairman, MRDB, and Mr. Arun Kumar Agarwal, Chairman IMEI- CHD Chapter.

 

Distinguished dignitaries were also felicitated on the occasion. The most prominent among them was Vice Admiral HS Malhi, AVSM, VSM, (Retd), former CMD MDL, and Distinguished Entrepreneur Sardar Harinder Singh Cheema, Chairman of Cheema Boilers was also felicitated. He talked about the Hydrogen Gas Burner patented by him.

 

There were four technical sessions as well. One of these was a Panel discussion managed by Extra Master Prabhat Nigam and his Chitkara University team.

 

Swinder Singh, FIE, Honorary Secretary, IEI P & C State Centre, proposed the vote of thanks.
