10 years of successful blogging by Dr Amit Nagpal

Dr Amit Nagpal

Dr Amit Nagpal, Co-Founder and National President of Bloggers Alliance and Advisor to NASSCOM Insights Community, is a famous author of Heroes Amongst Us and personal branding coach.

We are presenting here Dr Nagpal's personal account of his decade long blogging journey:

I dived into blogging in June 2010 and completed ten years of blogging last month. I had started penning my experiences as a teacher ten years ago.

Even the initial title of my blog was “The Joys of Teaching” as it focused on my experiences as a teacher. After three years, I changed the title to “Enlarge Excel Evolve” (and added a subtitle ‘Lets tell your inspiring success story’), as I evolved professionally. From teaching, I moved to training and coaching, and from blogging I moved on to storytelling.

There were some interesting milestones on the way. These milestones motivated me to carry on and sometimes gave me the assurance that it is worth the trouble.

First Milestone : The first milestone was when my blog was listed on blog aggregator site (of world’s best blogs) alltop.com launched by the renowned Guy Kawasaki. The surprise was that my blog was listed on Alltop within six months of the launch.

Second Milestone : The second milestone was when I noticed that my blog was getting traffic from 100+ countries across the world. The dashboard became my kick. It developed an international brand and took a life of its own.

Third milestone : The third memorable moment in the journey was when my first blog went viral. The blog‘s (7 Personal Branding lessons you learn by Falling in love) timing and content were planned well according to the occasion (Valentine’s Day).

Fourth milestone : The fourth milestone was when my blogs were published on internationally popular platforms such as businessesgrow.com (Mark W Schaefer) and janetsmithwarfield.com.

Fifth milestone : Writing joint blog series with popular bloggers like Jennifer Sertl (Hug and Nudge), Janet Smith Warfield (Two Perspectives) and others was the next milestone. I learnt a lot about sculpting words, the energy that words carry and so on, from these well known author-bloggers.

Sixth milestone : Some of my blogs were featured by LinkedIn on their channels. Two blogs which were featured include “Data data everywhere and not a drop of story” and “Why every website should have ‘Our story’?”

Blogging not only made me a better writer, but it also made me a better person. Blogging has helped me grow and evolve in several ways:-

Learning : Writing requires reading and researching which leads to gaining knowledge and staying abreast with latest concepts and developments in your domain.

Networking : Blog is a great tool to attract like minded people and with the combination of social networking sites, it can be used as a powerful tool for networking with leaders in your domain.

Personal Growth : Social media is required to promote blogs, which needs building a community. Interacting with community members makes us grow personally as we share feedback and invite constructive criticism.

Building a Reputation : I believe in today’s digital world, a blog is the foundation of our personal brand. It builds our credibility as domain expert and also as someone passionate about the subject.

Practice Writing Skills : Blogging and Micro-blogging are very useful to practice writing and storytelling skills. I always emphasise, “Practice. Practice. Practice….. Under the guidance of a mentor”. This is the greatest success mantra especially for bloggers, writers and storytellers.

Pumpkart aims to become a profitable unicorn from India

Pumpkart founder K S Bhatia with its brand amabassador Kapil Dev Chandigarh :  Since the year 2006, the face of Indian companies has changed with the advent of E-Commerce in India . E-commerce simply put is buying of products or services online. So Amazon, Flipkart, PayTm, Zomato, Ola and all the 21 Unicorns of India are e-commerce players. The continuous upgrade in technology like 4G revolution has helped these companies to grow exponentially as the internet penetration in India increased from 4% in 2009 to 40% in 2018. The result is that today the e-commerce business has grown from $3.9 Billion in 2009 to $38.5 Billion in 2019.  Everything about e-commerce is quite rosy as e-commerce also seems to be the most sought after area by the Investors. But when companies like e-Bay and Shopclues wind up, the dark side of the e-commerce is thrown open. None of the Ecommerce companies in India are making profit currently except one i.e. Pumpka...
