Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology organized ‘Suvyan 2019’




Chandigarh, 18 May, 2019: The Northern India Institute of Fashion Technology, Mohali presented Suvyan’19, a display exhibition to showcase the final design collection of the graduating students of Textile Design Department at Hotel Shivalik View, ChandigarhThree years of rigorous learning and efforts culminated at the Annual Final Collection – Suvyan’19.
This year Suvyan showcased 55 collections by the graduating students of Textile Design Department. The collection included apparels, accessories and home furnishing products. All of the products have been designed, keeping in mind the latest, trending and unique themes that the companies demand for. Through the media of colors, materials, finishes and techniques students expressed individual statements as design solutions for fabrics and home furnishing products etc. 
Mrs. Vini Mahajan, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary , Industries and Commerce, Punjab & Chairperson, NIIFT, said “NIIFT is indeed a jewel in the crown amongst the colleges of Punjab and I am glad to know that it is producing highly skilled students who command high value in the fashion and textile sector not only in the State but in the whole country”
Each student worked with an industrial client for a period of 5 months which lead to the development of their individual collections and exhibition of design work. These industries were Nahar Fabrics, Vardhaman, May Design, Bombay Dyeing, Orient Craft, Shahi Exports, Swayam India, Mahajan Overseas, Trident, Arvind Mills etc.  
Mr. Manjit Singh Brar, IAS, Director, Industries and Commerce, Punjab and Director General NIIFT said “Every year opportunities at Suvyan are increasing and it is an excellent forum to exhibit the latest trends in textile sector as projected by the young budding textile designers of NIIFT.
The faculty members Ms. Shweta Sharma, Head of Department Textile Design, Ms Deepti Sharma, Ms Navneet Kaur played a vital role in guiding and mentoring the students. 

An eminent jury was invited to evaluate the collections for the awards. The jury included art proponents, textile designers and industry experts.Textile Design Awards were given. Best design collection went to Ms Bhagyasheel, most innovative collection was bagged by Ms Saloni Sharma and Ms Sonam Yadav, most commercial collection was won by Ms Himashi Kumari and Ayushi Rani, special jury award went to Ms Ananya Sathe and Rhea Sinha and   best design methodology went to Mr Amit Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr K.S Brar, Director NIIFT said “Suvyan is a platform for showcasing the innovative design abilities of the textile design student. We look forward to taking advantage of this platform to attract more companies and build relationships with them.
Sh Inderjit Singh, Registrar NIIFT said “Textile industry is the core and a necessary element of garment development. It is a pleasure to help industry with trained professional in this field.”
Smt. Poonam Thakur, Principal NIIFT said that "NIIFT is poised to expand and enter the next level of Design education as per needs of the textile industry."
“Suvyan has been very close to my heart as students put in their heart and soul in creating beautiful piece of work which is ultimately recognized by the industry”, said Ms. Shweta Sharma,Head of the Department, Textile Design .
