Dr Jagvinder Virk's efforts help thousand stuck Australians

Melbourne: Rescue flight carrying 444 Australian passengers landed in Melbourne. Passengers erupted in loud cheers and applause as the charter flight carrying the first batch of Australians who were stuck in India’s Corona Virus lockdown touched down in Melbourne.
A group of 444 Australians, including 33 infants, who had been stuck in India arrived in Melbourne aboard a Lion Air chartered flight from New Delhi at 8 PM on Sunday.
The rescue operation was spearheaded by Sydney based Dr Jagvinder Singh Virk, Chairman of India Australia Strategic Alliance. He along with Simon Quinn, an Australian expat living in New Delhi were streamlining the rescue process.
Together they reached out to charter companies to organise an aircraft and to set up an online ticketing system for the passengers.


"I am literally overwhelmed. The thanks messages from passengers are just unstoppable. It feels like we are all part of one big family and our loved ones have finally returned home" said Dr Virk.
He also added that four more flights will be coming to Australia from India. The second flight will depart from New Delhi on Thursday, 16th April 2020 at 12 PM. The destination is Melbourne. The third flight will depart from New Delhi on Saturday, 18th April 2020 at 12 PM. The destination is Melbourne. The fourth flight will depart from Chennai to Melbourne on 19th April. The fifth flight will depart Mumbai to Melbourne on 20th April.
Dr Virk gave his special thanks to Anurag Thakur, Hardeep Puri, Jaishanker, CEO of Invest India, Deepak Bagla and other team members who helped in this mission.
